Saturday we hung two sets of hooks in my Sunday School
classroom. One set for my kids to hang
their bags and backpacks on, and the other for us teachers to hang our purses
on. My dad was gracious enough to do
this for me because it was out of my very small realm of handyman
knowledge. He mounted the hooks on
stained boards to give them more stability. We each carried one set on the ride
over to the classroom. I just happened
to set mine on my lap on top of my brand new shorts. Unfortunately, the wood stain on the back was
still just tacky enough to come off on my new shorts and the bottom of my new
tank top. Now this is the second pair of
shorts that have accidentally been ruined within two weeks. You should know
that I am not a diva, but I like to have my clothes fit nicely. I find this quite difficult to accomplish
most of the time, so a ruined pair of shorts is very frustrating. I only own one pair, so when the first
accident occurred and the rust stain wouldn’t come out, God supplied the second
pair. They fit perfectly. Well, as you know, the wood stain ruined the second
pair this Saturday, so I had to go shorts shopping again.
“Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of
the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not
much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?”
Matthew 6:30
Ouch! What a
reminder. I needed it too. God has never let me go without what I
need. I was not being frivolous or
careless with what He had entrusted to me, so I had no reason to doubt that He
wouldn’t supply the perfect pair of short that I so desperately needed. He did. They were on sale and had an extra discount too, so we were able to be good stewards with the money God had provided.
They are Bermuda shorts that fit like they were made for me and are very
comfortable. This time He provided them
in black instead of the previous two gray pairs. I’m guessing here, but He probably provided
black because less things show on black.
“But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19
If God notices and takes care of the tiny sparrow, he surely
notices the need for a pair of shorts that fit for someone created in His image. I guess He also knew I needed a pair of paint shorts and shirt, and He provided those too.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them
shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
But the very hairs
of your head are all numbered.
Fear ye not
therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
Matthew 10:29-31
